Boston... what a great place to visit any time of the year, but particularly right now.
Boston is a city that has something for everyone, from the bustle of the inner harbour and whale watching, shopping and of course the food!
After years of watching Cheers on TV I finally made it to this charming and welcoming city. First I discovered not to drive , one can easily get around on the subway for almost nothing. People are helpful and it was safe.
Boston is full of history. The Boston Tea Party, Paul Rever's Ride, and the Boston Massacre. If you like history you can not miss the Freedom Trail. The trail itself is 2.5 miles and is clearly marked by a red line down the sidewalk. With 18 historic sites to stop at it is a don't miss. My favorite stop was Faneul Hall. The hall houses the Quincy market which was a hoot! Full of music, street performers and food for any budget.
For the more chic there is Newbury Street, full or expensive, trendy and one of a kind boutiques, it was a shopping experience!
To finish the day recommend the North End. Narrow European streets, restaurants, cafes and character best describe this area.
These are but a few of the places to visit in this exciting and welcoming city. Right now there are some good travel discounts to visit Boston.

Live Like A Local - Not Like A Tourist
One of my favorite things when I travel is finding out where the locals go and try to experience a place through their eyes.
I live in a resort town, when summer comes ....well ...we locals all try to disappear and retreat to our favorite secret places. These secret places are true travel finds when found by the right type of tourist and are always delightful.
So how do you find the local experience? A great way is to try to stay away from the main hotel strip and district and get right into the neighborhoods. Bed and Breakfasts are a wonderful option and can be a savings. Another great way to have that "local experience" and to save a lot of coin is to trade homes with someone.
Trading homes with someone can save you thousands of dollars over a two week period, but best of all you are staying in a comfortable well appointed home. Another great advantage is you have neighbors to talk to. They often will share local grocers, restaurants, pubs and yes even quiet little beaches and hikes. These finds are the gems of my travel experiences.

Luggage Limitation - Pet Peeve
Before I start talking about the deals I find on line and some of the great places to visit, I have one HUGE pet peeve.... Luggage weight limitations and having to pay to check one piece of luggage. First do they weigh each of us to see what we weigh and what our total flight weight per person is? Anyway enough of my rant....
I did find a simple solution. Pack smarter. I now do not pay additional weight or baggage fees. My first savings. Here are a few tips:
I did find a simple solution. Pack smarter. I now do not pay additional weight or baggage fees. My first savings. Here are a few tips:
- roll your not fold your pants & skirts
- use tissue paper between layers (this prevents a lot of wrinkles)
- don't pack a hair dryer or iron (any descent hotel or B&B will have these items even if you have to call the front desk and ask).
- pack in colour schemes for easy versatility, you will require less shoes
