One of my favorite things when I travel is finding out where the locals go and try to experience a place through their eyes.
I live in a resort town, when summer comes ....well ...we locals all try to disappear and retreat to our favorite secret places. These secret places are true travel finds when found by the right type of tourist and are always delightful.
So how do you find the local experience? A great way is to try to stay away from the main hotel strip and district and get right into the neighborhoods. Bed and Breakfasts are a wonderful option and can be a savings. Another great way to have that "local experience" and to save a lot of coin is to trade homes with someone.
Trading homes with someone can save you thousands of dollars over a two week period, but best of all you are staying in a comfortable well appointed home. Another great advantage is you have neighbors to talk to. They often will share local grocers, restaurants, pubs and yes even quiet little beaches and hikes. These finds are the gems of my travel experiences.
